Do you think fractal flames are as pretty/fascinating as more traditional fractals like the M-set or even Serpinski triangles? I like them but there's so little variety.

Well, I think it depends on the way the fractals are rendered. Complex-plane fractals are beatiful and there is much variety really (just take a look to Fractint).

I use Apophysis to make fractals. It uses flames. However, I can create traditional fractals using flames and Apophysis, too.
Here is a spinning/zooming Serpinski triangle I made using a flame and imageready (for the motion):

Also, I just made a post on my blog with more fractals I made using flames. There is a large amount of variety when you combine different types in calculated ways.

I do not really like flames that are generated randomly, however. Structure is a key to beauty in my opinion.

tehgeek,

Fractals on your SU page are awesome! Got more? LOL
